The Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa/ Tampere University Hospital (TAUH) provides demanding specialized care services to over one million inhabitants in the Pirkanmaa area. Tampere University Hospital is one of the largest research and training hospitals in Finland. The hospital participates in numerous ongoing scientific research projects and provides facilities to conduct clinical trials in its premises, large-scale statistical services for researchers, and an active biobank that hosts samples from DIPP and PREVALL studies among other studies.
Mikael Knip, MD, PhD, is the Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics and Research Director at the University of Helsinki and Project Director at Tampere University Hospital. His research focuses on type 1 diabetes (T1D) and other immune-mediated diseases in children and adolescents.
Dr. Knip is a co-principal investigator and a steering committee member of the DIPP study, a co-principal investigator of the PREVALL trial, and the coordinator of the DIABIMMUNE study. He has also led the international TRIGR trial (Trial to Reduce IDDM in the Genetically at Risk).
