About

Dr. Lars C. Stene has long experience in studying environmental factors in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes (T1D). His focus has been on early life environmental factors, encompassing infections, nutritional factors, inflammation, gene-environment interactions and epigenetics. His team has strong competence also in etiological studies of celiac disease (CD; Prof. Ketil Størdal) and asthma (Dr. Wenche Nystad). The team has experience with utilizing large cohorts and combining biobanks with register information for all three diseases. Dr. Stene is currently the PI of the MIDIA study, a birth cohort study that has followed children with genetically susceptibility to T1D and CD since 2001, and he has led the PAGE sub-study of T1D and CD in MoBa. His team encompass researchers trained in clinical medicine, nutrition, molecular biology/microbiology, and with strong expertise in epidemiological and biostatistical methods.
