DIETARY FACTORS TEAM
Professor Suvi M Virtanen and her research group have in-depth expertise in nutritional epidemiology, especially maternal and childhood nutrition. Her group has been developing and applying methods in longitudinal data collection, food composition databases and data analysis. Professor Virtanen has been responsible in dietary data collection in several large cohorts. Her group has identified several dietary risk or protective factors in the risk of islet autoimmunity, type 1 diabetes or asthma, and contributed to dietary recommendations.
In HEDIMED, her group (including Leena Hakola, PhD) will coordinate the dietary data harmonization and participate in studies that include dietary factors.
Diet in pregnancy, infancy and childhood, dietary assessment, dietary biomarkers, type 1 diabetes, allergy, prospective studies
